someone switch black widow and nick fury’s poses for me
Getting excited about this flick!
It’s very hard for me to be silly about Superman, because I’ve seen firsthand how he actually transforms people’s lives. I have seen children dying of brain tumors who wanted as their last request to talk to me, and have gone to their graves with a peace brought on by knowing that their belief in this kind of character really matters. It’s not Superman the tongue-in-cheek cartoon character they’re connecting with; they’re connecting with something very basic: the ability to overcome obstacles, the ability to persevere, the ability to understand difficulty and to turn your back on it. See, kids? It’s not all about property destruction and killing the bad guy.

Oh, internets..you make me smile.
Here’s a little drawing, from my sketchbook, that became more than I had originally intended… Here’s the story…
I just landed a gig to do all the art for a graphic novel. I mean ALL OF IT. Pencils, inks, colors, and letters. The whole shebang! But, I am feeling a little out of practice doing cartoony comic book style work since I’ve been primarily working in my other style, for the kidlit biz, these past couple years. The graphic novel calls for slightly cartoony/slightly realistic type art… the kind of comic book style illustration I’ve done… So, after drawing this as a rough sketch in my sketchbook, I just kept going. I need to practice this style again. Luckily this graphic novel job won’t start until early Summer this year. Giving me plenty of time to practice and get my chops back up.
What you see here is me practicing mostly my inking and coloring. I experimented with anatomy a bit too. This isn’t by any means a successful drawing, but as practice, I feel alright about it.
I wish my “finished work” ended up as nice as your practice!
